Apis dorsata, the giant honey bees are distributed in Southeast Asia. They nest in the open, are about twice as long as our bees, and are more defensive. They usually nest in large numbers on the same tree (bee tree).
A giant honey bee foraging on water lily. I had to wait for about 20 min for a bee to come to this flower (near the bank) on a Saturday morning. At that time my 990 did not have a zoom long enough to take pictures of flowers in the center of the pond.
